The Accusys B08S2-PS provides a compact storage solution that can be easily transported for field work, sit on the desktop without getting in the way, or even added to a SAN via a PCIe switch, but the B08S2-PS makes no compromises when it comes to performance. The B08S2-PS supports up to eight 2.5” SAS/SATA HDD or SSD drives with a total weight of no more than 5.5 kg including the drives.
Unlike other small form factor storage, the B08S2-PS takes full advantage of using PCIexpress protocol throughout the storage path. The 20Gb bandwidth is 20Gb throughout. There is no PCIe to FC conversion eliminating any protocol conversion delays.
The B08S2-PS was developed with the current changes in workflow in mind. Much more editing work is being done closer to where the content is being captured. On-set and on-location are words heard often as producers and directors realize cost and time savings, for example, from creating dailies on-location. Powerful and demanding applications require high performance storage, such as the B08S2-PS, to complete the dailies and make decisions before shooting starts the next day. The B08S2-PS has about 4 times the storage performance of a 6Gb eSATA and 2 times the performance of Thunderbolt storage. It works well with demanding editing applications from companies such as Autodesk, Blackmagic, Assimilate, and IRDAS.
The Accusys B08S2-PS is a must have RAID system for the HD, 2K, and 4K editing process, It not only can store large 2K and 4K files easily, its high speed and equalization features allow it to move files without frame drops. The compact B08S2-PS is a BIG performer.
Each B08S2-PS package contains a 20Gb QSFP HBA and a 2M QSFP cable, everything you need for a DAS connection to a workstation or a SAN connection to a switch. A dual port QSFP HBA is available as an option, with each port connected to a B08S2-PS, to provide 2400MB/sec speeds with OS striping to the workstation. The dual port QSFP HBA can also be used in the client workstation with one QSFP port connected to ExaSAN and the other QSFP port connected to a B08S2-PS for fast copying to and from an ExaSAN shared storage volume (SAN) to a B08S2-PS for transport.
Creating 3D video at a minimum doubles the data rate requirement that the storage system must provide. For example, 2K DPX files for film requires about 300MB/sec performance from storage. For stereo or 3D, the storage system must be capable of providing at least twice the speed at 600MB/sec. The B08S2-PS can easily provide 1200MB/sec to meet these requirements.
It is important to remember that all performance storage requires a degree of overhead to ensure smooth continuous and uninterrupted playback of video material. However beyond raw speed Accusys include some unique features built into their RAID hardware to help keep performance at its best. The Accusys B08S2-PS includes performance equalization mode (EQ). This reduces the fluctuation between data transfer speeds over time so that the likelihood of potential frame drops are minimized. Another Accusys feature is “disk lag proof” (DLP) which computes the RAID algorithm of weakening/failing drives (for example drives requiring multiple retries) ensuring the actual data transfer completes even before the weak drive has a chance to successfully complete its retries.
The Accusys B08S2-PS is the best cost effective high performance small form factor DAS solution. The package contains an 8 bay RAID system (hard drives sold separately), QSFP PCIe2.0 HBA card and cable. By connecting the B08S2-PS to the SW08-Q4 PCIe SAN switch, which can connect to up to 8 clients, the contents of the B08S2-PS can be shared among the clients in a SAN configuration. Additional RAID systems can be added to the switch to increase storage capacity.
