Accusys SWF16 PCIe Switch - Simplify SAN sharing

The Accusys ExaSAN SWF16 is the newest member of their PCIe 2.0 switch family. With 16 ports, it allows up to 12 clients to share storage for efficient, productive, and collaborative workflows. 4 ports are allocated for ExaSAN storage unit such as the A12S2-PS. The SWF16 provides 20Gb/s of bandwidth to each clients, and 20Gb/s to each of the storage ports via the QFSP connections. When building a SAN using 4 x A12S2-PS RAID systems and 12 x JBOD systems, you can achieve about 768TB’s of storage (with 4TB HDD) shared between 12 clients, making it the largest of media storage SAN on PCIe. There is an option to split the switch for 8 clients and 8 storage ports effectively doubling the available storage up to 1.5PB (1,500 TB’s).

Accusys’s new SWF16 PCIe SAN switch combines the MDC host, SAN management software and a SAN switch all into one unique package. Now with 6 SANit Licenses included, setting up a 6 client SAN environment has never been easier, with few simple configurations on each of the clients; you can complete the SAN in 3 easy steps.

Storage systems used for film, TV, video and commercials is not limited to storing just footage/clips, but every stage of the editing workflow. Beginning with video ingest, rough cut, editing, audio composing, effects, colour grading, finishing and play out. Every stage of this process may use applications that run on different systems and different OS’s. The Accusys ExaSAN SANit Solution with built-in metadata controller and SANit File System supports cross platform workflows between Mac, Windows, and Linux.

The benefits a SANit system:

  • Supports cross-platform collaborative workflow
  • Centralized asset management
  • Reducing the time for file copies and repeat
  • Simultaneous real-time access of uncompressed video formats
  • Supports multiple HD, 2K and 4K DPX streams

Using the ExaSAN SWF16 SANit Solution helps editors save significant time by increasing editing efficiency in transfer speeds, system stability, storage capacity and scalability. Different numbers of ExaSAN storage units provide you with different performance levels based on your needs. For example, a very economical and extremely effective combination of two A12S2 units can bandwidth of 40Gb/s and can handle 48 streams in the ProRes 4444 file format, 16 streams in the 1080 24p 10bit file format, 8 streams in the 2K DPX file format, or 2 streams in the 4K DPX file format.

SWF16 SANit Solution can support 4 solution of ExaSAN PCIe 2.0 (1x A12S2-PS plus 3x A12S2-SJ JBOD been 1 solution), maximum bandwidth of 80Gb/s.
